Secretary Message

Dr. Rajeev B. Ahuja
Secretary

Dear Colleagues,

First and foremost, I must thank you heartily for unanimously electing me to this post for the second term. I had intended to do so in the March Newsletter but space constraints prevented me from putting in my piece.I hope you have had the opportunity to visit our website at www./. The website has been very active, informative and useful. From this year it may even start generating some revenues. You are most welcome to send in your suggestions for making it even better.

Let me update you on the inernational news. The 8th Asian Pacific Congress of IPRAS at Taipei ,in April, was a grand show. Indian delegation was the 2nd largest. Our immediate past president, Prof. S.K. Bhatnagar was elected to the Executive Committee of the Asia Pacific Region. As was ordained, we shall be hosting the 9th Congress in 2005 at Mumbai.

Canniesburn Hospital, Glasgow, associated with likes of Tom Gibson, Jack Mustarde, Ian Jackson, Ian McGregor, Edgar Biemer, Robert Acland, Graham Lister, Burt Brent, Wayne Morrison, Gus McGrouther, David Soutar etc. is closing down. The department is being merged with another hospital to cut on administrative costs. With ODTS closing down in UK it is becoming increasingly difficult to train further in UK. Gradually Chang Gung Memorial Hospital at Taipei is becoming the hub of advanced training and many of us are opting to spend a few weeks there. At the same time it is heartening to note that Indian delegation at International meetings is getting `full bodied'. I am told, there were 21 Indian delegates at the IX International Congress of the International Society of Craniofacial Surgery held in Sweden last month.

Earthquake notwithstanding, our President has planned a `splashing' extravaganza at Mehsana during APSICON 2001. Do please come with your swimming gear. Looking forward to meeting you there.

With best wishes.
Yours sincerely,
Rajeev B. Ahuja
