Dr. S.K. Bhatnagar
President

Dear fellow colleagues,

At the outset I would like to thank all the distinguished members of our Association of Plastic Surgeons of India for having reposed their confidence in me by electing me as President of the Association for the year 2000.

The foundation of success regardless of your chosen field, is attitude. If attitude is such a critical factor in success, shouldn’t you examine your attitude toward life and ask how your attitude will affect your goals ? Our attitude determines how we look at a setback. To a positive thinker, it can be a stepping stone to success.

To a negative thinker, it can be a stumbling block. Great organizations are not measured by wages and working conditions, they are measured by feelings, attitudes and relationships. Are we born with attitudes or do we develop then as we mature ? What are the factors that form our attitudes ? If you have a negative outlook on life because of your environment, can you change your attitude ? Most of our attitude is shaped during our formative years.

There are primarily three factors that determine our attitude. They are :-

1. Environment 2. Experience 3. Education

Just like an absence of ill health does not equal good health, an absence of negative alone dose not make a person positive.

People with positive attitudes have certain personality traits that are easy to recognize. They are caring, confident, patient, and humble. They have high expectations of themselves and others. They anticipate positive outcomes.

The benefits of a positive attitude.

These are many and easy to see. But what is easy to see is also to miss. To mention a few, a positive attitude.

* increases productivity * fosters teamwork * solves problems * improves quality * makes for congenial atmosphere * breeds loyalty * increase profits * fosters better relationships with employers, employees and customers * reduces stress

* helps a person become a contributing member of society and an asset to their country * makes for a pleasing personality.

The Consequence of a Negative Attitude

Our life is an obstacle course and we become our own biggest obstacle by having a negative attitude. People with a negative attitude have ahead time keeping friendship, jobs, marriage and relationships. Their attitude leads to :-

* bitterness * resentment * a purposeless life * ill health * high stress level for themselves and others.

They create a negative environment at home and work and become a liability to society. They also pass on their negative behavior to others around them and to future generations.

So Friends, let us work with a Positive attitude to take APSI to newer heights in new millennium.

With regards,

Yours sincerely,

(Prof. S.K. Bhatnagar)

Dear Members,

Its good news all the way.

APSI is now cyber active and you can visit it at www./ or www.indiandoctors.com/apsi. After all the hard work and perseverance we finally managed to launch our own site. The site is still being developed and at present the contents include; About us, Office Bearers, Conferences, Newsletter, Journal, Members, Video Library and Links to other related sites of BAPS ,IPRAS etc. APSI membership form is also on the web now. You are welcome to visit the site and send in your suggestions for improvement.

The nuptial knot of APSI with ASI has finally been cut! ASI finally sent in their letter of ‘No Objection ‘ to our intent to separate. The constitutional committee has initiated the process of registering all our amendments. Our President is pleased to inform that all the ‘X’ Category members ( those without ASI membership ) are Full Members of APSI ,as of now, and have a voting right as well. This indeed is a reason to rejoice.

The constitutional committee in its last meeting felt the electoral process of our Association needed a review. It has requested for a mandate to enlarge the scope of the committee to include this in its purview. The Association has grown and , perhaps , it is in order to streamline our electoral process. We will deliberate on this issue in the next GB meeting at Agra.

I once again request members to very promptly inform of change in their address. A lot of mail comes back undelivered. However, the latest Newsletter will now always be available on the web site.

I have enjoyed being in office, and to have had the opportunity to chip in my contributions. I shall look forward to your continued support.

Looking forward to meeting you at Agra.

With best wishes.

Yours sincerely,

(Dr. Rajeev B. Ahuja)
